Marlborough Street Angels are a collection of Christians from all denominations and all ages who came together to be on the streets from 9pm- 12 midnight on both of the Marlborough Mop fair nights offering hot drinks, cakes biscuits and chatting & listening to people, picking up litter we started & finished the evening with a prayer and our base was out side Strakers (estate agents) below are some of the comments of the Street Angels nearly all for whom this was a first experience. We intend to do the same again next year. (Maybe before, do get in touch if interested)
"It was great to see in preparations and the nights in the town, that a variety of people were involved in Street Angels. It was lots of fun sticking the letters on the fluorescent coats with our home group and that somehow made them a part of it all.
The conversations I had with Tesco's Community Champion, who enabled us to have the bottled water free of charge, were great. She did an Alpha course in Marlborough a few years ago and it was lovely to see her again.
I particularly enjoyed talking to the stall and ride owners at the fair and offering cakes round.
"So what are Street Angels?" one lady asked and it was a wonderful opportunity to share the vision of Christians on the streets simply to show love and care for our community. When can we go out and about again is the question to ask now!" H.S
"It was a pleasure to be involved and I hope and pray this is only the beginning. Count me in if we are to continue..... Would be great! I have been thinking so long about training as a city Street Pastor and this has confirmed this direction for me.
It rewarding to recognise and meet in some small way the needs of a few of the revellers there, young and older.
It was humbling to see the vulnerability of a number of those young people, even youngsters in years 9 and 10 in groups on the streets late at night - I saw that some didn't want to be there but were influenced by and even felt they had to be a part of this culture.
It provided a great stimulus to pray for the youth of our town and a motivation to do more." P.P
"I really enjoyed the whole evening and I am sure many will be feeling slightly better this morning than they would have done as a result of the water, tea and coffee and the much-appreciated cakes!" G.H
"After an apprehensive start to the evening I really enjoyed my self, the age groups I encountered were teenagers to young adults some in need of the refreshments we were offering and it was gratefully received most not believing that it was for free, I also enjoyed the camaraderie of the Street Angels, it was a growing time, we do have a need in our town and this initiative is a wonderful way to show we care, also a comment from a passer-by that we were Pre-Police was an interesting take." M.H
"I too felt apprehensive and my companion voiced this but I was so taken with the way she had just the right words to approach the young, letting them know of the care offered. I felt it was a most direct form of outreach and pray that some of the stickers on the bottles with Devotion details were noticed. I believe that some of the young lads who erected the fair could have been in need of more attention from us. Some reactions were surprisingly grateful and only a few grabbed the bottles and when offered said 'why not' !" P.H
