CNI Regional Leader for South Coast and South West - Derek Baker
Derek Baker is the co-ordinator for Arun Angels, the street Angel project based in Bognor Regis. He has always preferred to do stuff outside of the four walls of church and be known for doing things rather than talking about it.
Derek grew up in Plymouth, Devon and still has a love for all things west country but moved away in the early 80’s to be part of a church in Surrey and then part of a church planting team into South London. Derek sees value in community initiatives whether that is restoring a village pond, running a football team or simply getting a few guys together for a biking, walking or camping trip. In 2007, Derek got involved with Portsmouth Street Pastors and found it a great way of demonstrating God’s unconditional love often describing it as “doing something outside of the box”. Having spent most of his career working in a variety of roles within the IT Industry, in 2009, the new initiative of Arun Angels began and Derek took on the role of Co-ordinator. In the last few years Arun Angels have become a regular and much appreciated part of the Saturday night environment in Bognor Regis.
Derek has been married to Penny for over 30 years and have two grown up children. When he’s not walking the streets he’s often found seeking out wild and remote places.
