In a recent report, published by West Yorkshire Police it was confirmed that there had been a 57% reduction in violent and sexual related crime in Halifax town centre at a weekend.
Speaking during her visit with the volunteers, Linda Riordan MP said
“I am privileged to visit the work of Halifax Street Angels again. It is a fantastic joy to see the effect that the volunteers are making to the life of Halifax. My challenge to other MP's is to take time this summer and visit projects in their own areas. From a small project in Halifax in 2005, there is now over 100 projects throughout the UK. I believe these are essential for the well-being of our towns and cities.”
Thanking the MP for her visit, Paul Blakey MBE, the Founder of Street Angels and Christian Nightlife Initiatives said
"It is great that Linda was able to join the Street Angel volunteers in Halifax on Friday. Linda was able to experience again the town centre on a Friday night and see for herself why the town was awarded the Purple Flag earlier in the year. As well as hearing how Street Angels - Christian Nightlife Initiatives has expanded to around 100 towns and cities across the UK, Linda took time to hear from volunteers about some of the other local initiatives, such as Food and Support Drop In, and the difference being made in our town."
